Keeping Your Eyelids Clean & Comfortable

Eyelid hygiene is more important to your eye comfort than you might think.
To help address eyelid issues contributing to your dry eye symptoms, we offer BlephEx, a comprehensive hygiene tool designed to help clean the edges of your eyelids.
We’re proud to offer BlephEx as part of our expansive selection of dry eye strategies. Find out today how we can alleviate your discomfort and request your appointment!

How Your Eyelids Support Your Eye Comfort

Your eyelids have an essential role to play in comforting your eyes.
Along the edges of your eyelid is a series of glands, known as meibomian glands, which secrete oils to help support your tear film. Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) occurs when these glands can’t provide enough oils to your tear film, often due to blockages inside the lid or on the edges.
Cleaning the edges of eyelids can help address MGD symptoms and treat blepharitis, a type of inflammation that can occur alongside MGD, eye infections, and skin issues like rosacea.

What Is BlephEx?

BlephEx is an in-office treatment we offer to help clean the edges of your eyelids, removing blockages and irritants that may be causing dry eye or eyelid inflammation.
Like any treatment we provide, we first need to perform an eye exam to ensure the treatment is suitable for you.
BlephEx uses a medical-grade spinning micro-sponge to clean away skin flakes, toxins, bacteria, and other debris while also exfoliating your eyelids.
Before Your Treatment
Once we determine you’re a candidate for BlephEx, we’ll book an appointment to perform the treatment.
We’ll ask you to arrive at your treatment with no eye makeup, but there will be an opportunity to remove any before starting the session.
During Your Treatment
We’ll apply some numbing drops to your eyes before we begin.
You might notice a light scrubbing sensation on your eyelids during the treatment, but you shouldn’t experience any pain. The treatment usually takes less than 10 minutes to complete.
After Your Treatment
Your eyes may feel more comfortable following your treatment, but this depends on how severe your symptoms are.
We’ll likely recommend multiple treatments over a few months to help manage your eyelid hygiene and prevent MGD and blepharitis from developing again. We may also want to combine BlephEx treatments alongside other strategies, but will personalize your treatment plan when you visit us for a dry eye appointment.
