At IVA, our dermapeels (professional chemical exfoliation treatments) are designed to gently, safely and effectively renew your skin’s surface, enhance radiance, correct pigmentation, smooth texture and reveal a healthy glow. Whether you’re dealing with clogged pores, dull tone, fine lines, or uneven skin colour, our customized peel protocol offers targeted results with minimal downtime.
A chemical peel works by applying a medical-grade acid formulation to the skin in a professional setting. What happens:
-The acid gently dissolves bonds between dead skin cells and loosens the “glue” that attaches them, allowing the dead cells to shed and reveal fresh skin beneath.
-Some acids penetrate more deeply (into the upper dermis) and trigger a controlled “injury”, which in turn stimulates collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycan synthesis — improving firmness, tone, texture and clarity.
-The result is improved clarity, smoother texture, more even tone, and often a more radiant appearance.
-We carefully tailor the peel’s strength, acid type, and neutralisation process so that we can treat a variety of skin types — including skin of colour and pigment-prone skin — safely and effectively.

Here’s a quick overview of the key acid families our peels use, and what each brings:
✅ Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) (eg. glycolic acid, lactic acid) – small molecule size allows deep penetration; loosens bonds between surface cells; also supports hydration and renewal. Best for pigmentation, melasma, sun damage, freckles, wrinkles and collagen building
✅ Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs) (eg. salicylic acid) – oil-soluble and pore-penetrating, ideal for pimples, oily, congested or acne-prone skin.
✅ Mandelic acid – an AHA with a larger molecular structure; penetrates more slowly and evenly, which means less irritation and great compatibility for darker skin tones or sensitive skin.
Because every skin is unique, especially when addressing pigment, sensitivity or melanin-rich skin, we design your protocol with your skin’s history, condition, and goals in mind
- We exclusively use professional-grade formulations from SkinCeuticals which are physician-backed and formulated for in-office use.
- All treatments are performed by a licensed aesthetician under medical supervision, ensuring safe protocols, correct neutralisation and optimal results.
- Our post-treatment care is tailored to skin of colour, pigment-prone skin and sensitive tones, ensuring that brightening, smoothing and resurfacing are achieved without unnecessary risk of irritation or rebound pigment.
- We recommend premium after-care such as CBD+, a CBD infused product line and SkinCeuticals maintenance skincare to extend your results.
A professional dermapeel uses higher-strength acids under controlled medical supervision, targets deeper layers of the skin, triggers renewal processes (collagen/elastin), and delivers more dramatic and longer-lasting results than a standard exfoliating facial.
Yes — when correctly selected and administered by an experienced provider. At IVA we use formulations (such as mandelic/salicylic blends) that are very well tolerated in pigmented skin, and we follow a strict protocol of prep, neutralisation, and after-care to minimize risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
It depends on your skin goals. For maintenance and glow: every 4-6 weeks is common. For more advanced concerns (texture, pigment) a series of 3-6 may be recommended, followed by maintenance sessions.
Absolutely, with appropriate downtime depending. Peels pair well as prep for IPL, microneedling, dermaplaning, LED therapy etc. At IVA we design your roadmap holistically — we may perform a peel in-office and suggest home-care or other in-clinic modalities for optimum outcome.
We’ll provide you with a brief skin-preparation protocol: good sun protection, avoidance of new or aggressive actives, hydration, and sometimes pre-treatment skincare to stabilise pigment. This ensures your peel is safe and effective.
Formulation / active acids: SkinCeuticals Gel Peel SM
A gel peel combining salicylic acid (BHA) + mandelic acid (AHA) for deeper exfoliation with gentler penetration (mandelic being slower and more even).
What it treats / benefits:
-Effective for congested, oily or acne-prone skin: salicylic acid clears pores, debris; mandelic acid helps with cellular turnover with less irritation.
-Helps improve post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (common in skin of colour) because mandelic acid is better tolerated.
-Dual benefit: exfoliation + improved tone/clarity.
Ideal candidate: Clients with breakouts, clogged pores, uneven tone or pigment from prior inflammation; particularly beneficial for pigmented skin needing a safer but effective peel.
Formulation / active acids: SkinCeuticals Micropeel Series
-Professional glycolic acid peel series ( Micropeel 15, 20 & 30) — glycolic is a small AHA molecule with deep penetration.
What it treats / benefits:
-Gentle resurfacing, brightness, smoothing of texture, addressing early fine lines or mild pigmentation.
-Minimal downtime, intended as maintenance or introductory resurfacing.
Ideal candidate:
-Clients who are new to chemical peels or want consistent maintenance; good for evolving skin care regimes, mild ageing/pigment concerns.
Formulation / active acids: SkinCeuticals Micropeel Plus
-Professional salicylic acid based peel series (3% Glycolic AHA/salicylic 20% or 30%BHA blend ) intended for oilier or acne-prone skin.
What it treats / benefits:
-Targets skin that is oily, clogged, uneven tone due to breakouts; deeper than very light peels but still professional and manageable downtime.
-Encourages clearer pores, smoother texture, and improved tone.
Ideal candidate: Clients with active congestion, blackheads/whiteheads, uneven tone from acne, moderate texture issues.
Formulation / Key Actives: SkinCeuticals Pigment Balancing Peel
- ~40% unbuffered glycolic acid + ~10% citric acid + ~27% vitamin C (in a brightening complex) + ~4% emblica extract.
What it treats / Benefits:
-Accelerates cellular renewal and exfoliation to visibly reduce hyper-pigmentation, sun damage, melasma, and post-inflammatory discoloration.
-Improves uneven skin tone, mottled skin appearance, and enhances skin brightness and clarity.
-Aims to smooth surface texture, refine tone and deliver a clearer, more even complexion.
Ideal Candidate:
Clients with pigment concerns (dark spots, melasma, post-acne marks), uneven tone, sun-damage or mottled skin. Because of the strong acid blend, this is more of a “corrective” or advanced peel—not necessarily your lightest maintenance option.
Skin of Colour / Pigment-Safety Note:
-extra care in melanated skin is essential: proper prep, sun avoidance, and tailored neutralisation protocols are critical.
Series & Downtime Guidance: We recommend a series of treatments (e.g., 4-6 sessions spaced 2-4 weeks apart) to achieve optimal pigment results. Some mild redness and flaking are expected
